In this video i install a hinge pin door stop on one of my exterior doors.

Finally rotate the adjuster to set how far the door can open.
Simply tap the top hinge pin out then insert the pin through the door stop plastic foot to the door adjuster towards the door frame and drop the combined pin stop back into the hinge.
The commercial option works on hinges with 5 16 hinge pins.
For heavy doors install another doorstop in the bottom hinge.
If the hinge leaf is recessed only at the bottom or the top insert a shim behind only part of the hinge leaf.
Use solid stops or heavy duty hinge pin stops for thicker solid core doors and if you choose hinge stops install them on both the top and bottom hinges if the door is exceptionally heavy.

Install a hinge mounted doorstop.
Slide the tip of a straight slot screwdriver under the head of the hinge pin on the door s upper hinge.
Smaller hinge pin stops are best suited to lightweight interior doors.

Close the door then use an old straight slot screwdriver to gently pry up and remove the top hinge pin.
Pry the hinge pin up and remove it.
Installing a hinge pin door stop is an easy and inexpensive way to correct this.
The pin is 3 16 diameter.
