Hip Tile Roof

The point at which the two sides meet is called a hip.

A hip roof or a hipped roof is a style of roofing that slopes downwards from all sides to the walls and hence has no vertical sides. The same tiles are used on the ridge line which i ll get to later. This is simply a roof where the two sides meet at an angle as showin in the picture above. A hip roof or hipped roof is a type of roof design where all roof sides slope downward toward the walls where the walls of the house sit under the eaves on each side of the roof.

There are two main problems which develop with both types. The half round tiles that fit over the hip are the hip tiles. Some roofs have hips some don t. Hip tiles are just the same but they aren t found at the very top of the roof.

Ridge and hip requirements on tile roofs. A hip roof is a common roof style characterized by 2 pairs of opposing faces sloping downward from a high peak. These cover the diagonal sloping bit which joins the end of the top ridge to the front and back corners of a semi detached house. Unless hip and ridge tiles on a clay tile roof are going to be set into a continuous bed of mortar special nailers are required to install them.

The hip and ridge boards are typically 2x3s to 2x6s set on edge to hold the trim tiles in an even plane.
