Hi everyone so i rescued a hp workstation z220 core i7 3770 3 4 ghz from the e waste pile at work the only thing missing was the ram. The gtx 1060 and greater require pcie power leads not available to the hp 690 series. The hp 690 lincs motherboard does use a proprietary power supply.

I have a gt970 i d like to use for a graphics card but found out it requires 2 6 power connectors and a minimum 500w supply. Again take the time to download the service manuals for the z220 and z420 compare the power supply pinouts between the two and if they match you will have your answer also i see what appears to be a white 4 pin connector for cpu power if this is so does your atx supply have a 4pin cpu aux connector. I ve seen posts for the z210 and 240 but nothing specific that mentions the z220.

Happy days i have bought ram and a gpu for this machine which works great but in my haste i didn t check the psu which didn t have a plug lead to power.
